Check whether you can use the card where you are. Google Play cards have country restrictions, and a price shown by a third-party site does not remove them. This guide explains the recorded figure and the difference between a card’s face value, a quoted resale value and credit already in a Play account.

Can you redeem a US Google Play card in Nigeria?
Google says you must be in the country where the card was purchased to redeem it, and its currency must match the payment profile. A US-dollar card is therefore not a general-purpose Naira balance you can load into a Nigerian Play account. Google’s redemption troubleshooting page explains these country and currency checks.
For example, if a relative sends you a US card while you are in Nigeria, its $100 face value does not tell you whether your account can redeem it. Check the purchase country before entering the code. Do not pay someone who promises to make a region error disappear by taking over your account. The country-mismatch guide covers that error separately.
Does Google exchange the card for cash?
Google’s refund policy says Play gift cards and prepaid balance generally are not refundable or transferable unless the law requires it. For US residents, Google says gift cards generally cannot be redeemed for cash unless state or federal law requires it.
For cards purchased through Google Play’s gifting feature, the gifting rules explicitly prohibit selling or exchanging them for cash or another prepaid payment method. Do not treat a third-party price listing as permission to resell. Check the terms for your particular card; this article reports a market record, not an issuer-approved cash-out route.
A redeemed balance is not an unused $100 card
Once you redeem a gift card, Google adds its value to your Play balance. A screenshot showing $100 in an account is not the same thing as holding an unused $100 claim code. Google’s balance guide explains what redemption does.
If you have already redeemed the code, do not describe it as unused or hand over your Google login to someone offering to withdraw the balance. Use Google’s support process for a redemption problem or a refund request that may qualify under its rules.
Three checks before relying on a price you find online
- Match the card. “$100 Google Play” is incomplete without the purchase country, currency and physical or digital format. USD 100 and CAD 100 are different records.
- Read the source date. A page checked today can still display last month’s data. Look for the date attached to the figure itself.
- Keep the code private. A preliminary discussion about a card’s value needs its description, not its claim code, password or OTP. Keep the receipt for any legitimate support request.
